Eye examination

Many eye problems can develop without you knowing – in fact, you may not even notice any change in your sight.

Our comprehensive eye examinations including the OCT and OPTOMAP can detect many eye diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Refraction Test

Our optometrists will ask you questions about your health, lifestyle and any family history of eye problems. Your vision will be checked to determine if you need a corrective prescription and you will receive advice on the health of your eyes.

At Mirage, we provide comprehensive eye examinations using cutting edge technology and equipment. Our appointments are usually an hour long based on your individual needs.

Optical Coherence Tomography

The SPECTRALIS 4D HD Eye Health Check uses a patented eye-tracking system that allows the opticians to identify those at risk of eye disease more easily. The tracking system allows the 3D scan to be placed in exactly the same place at each visit, giving a true 4D view of change over time. This helps to reveal eye disease which may not yet be noticeable by the patient or detectable with a traditional eye exam.

Fast, painless and non-contact, the scan does not include any bright flashes of light or puffs of air, and takes place in seconds.

“We are really excited to offer our patients this new 4D HD eye exam,” said Dilesh Patel. “Using the SPECTRALIS technology, we can examine tiny details that help us detect eye disease at the earliest stages, reducing the risk of sight loss and improving our patient’s lives.”

Optomap

The optomap® ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Traditional methods typically reveal only 10 to 15% of your retina at one time.

The optomap is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The process is not painful and typically does not require dilation. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The optomap images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.

The inclusion of optomap as part of a comprehensive eye examination provides:

  • A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
  • A view of the retina, giving us a more comprehensive view than other methods.
  • The opportunity for you to view and discuss the images of your eye with us at the time of your exam.
  • A permanent record for your file, which allows us to view your images over time and look for changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’re here to help. Find answers to our most frequently asked questions below to make your Mirage experience as smooth and informed as possible.

At what age should my child have their first eye examination?

It is recommended that children have their first eye test by the age of 3, or earlier if you notice any signs of vision issues. Early detection of any vision problems, such as lazy eye or squints, can make a significant difference in treatment and development.

How often should my child have an eye examination?

Children should have their eyes tested regularly, usually every 1 to 2 years, depending on their age and any existing vision problems. If your child wears glasses or has been diagnosed with a condition like nearsightedness, more frequent visits may be necessary.

Is the eye examination painful or uncomfortable for my child?

No, the eye examination is painless and non-invasive. Our optometrists use gentle methods to check your child’s vision and overall eye health, ensuring they feel comfortable throughout the process.

What happens during my child’s eye examination?

During the eye test, our optometrists will ask questions about your child’s health and any vision concerns. They will assess your child’s vision, check for common eye conditions, and, if necessary, recommend glasses, treatments, or further referrals. We also use advanced technology, like a retinal scan, to get a detailed look at the health of your child’s eyes.
